Christmas in Germany

Germany is considered to be the capital of Christmas. There is no surprise: the first Christmas tree came from Germany, and were opened those workshops that gave the first Christmas toys to the whole world. Germany pleases with the most tasty, bright, and unusual Christmas markets every year: in a mixture with hearty meals, ancient knight castles, and massive duke residences the country creates a striking winter vibe and can lift the spirits no matter which weather behind the window. Let’s immerse ourselves in the world of German Christmas traditions by getting to know one of the oldest regions – Baden-Württemberg. Shall we enjoy interesting stories, unusual traditions, tasty dishes, and surely Christmas markets!
Day 1
 Flight to Frankfurt
A walk in the city by getting acquainted with the biggest city of Hessen region. Despite his role of one of the main financial centers of Europe and the world, Frankfurt also attracts by the cozy Christmas atmosphere which is nice to be felt on the central square, in the old alleys, near St. Bartholomew Cathedral. Zeil is the main shopping street of the city during the pre-Christmas sales and turns into the biggest and oldest Christmas markets of Germany. Lunch in the local restaurant with the dishes of the Frankfurt cuisine*. Accommodation in hotel. (Depending on the flight) the trip to Aschaffenburg*, the town of fairs and festivals, palaces and splendid parks. For its mild climate it was nicknamed the “Bavarian Nice”.
Day 2
Moving to Mainz
Moving to Mainz. Excursion in the city, the capital of Rheinland-Pfalz region, which is famous for its unique empire cathedral. Moving to Heidelberg in the afternoon. A walk through the town center. Lunch*. Additional excursion on the territory of the castle ruins*. The castle has centuries-old history and was the residence of the dukes of Württemberg. Here are the one of the oldest pharmacies of the city, and the biggest wine cask. Moving to hotel.  
Day 3
Acquaintance with Rastatt
Additional excursion to the former residence of the margraves of Baden-Baden, the oldest baroque edifice on the Upper Rhine*. Acquaintance with city-resort Baden-Baden in the afternoon. The fresh air invites to make an active little stroll; the famous Casino still remembers big winnings and desperate revenges from Leo Tolstoy and Fyodor Dostoevsky. Visit the Caracalla thermal bath is possible*.
Day 4
Acquaintance with the south part of the region, the former Duchy of Baden. 
Moving to Freiburg.
Acquaintance with the south part of the region, the former Duchy of Baden. Moving to Freiburg. An historical stroll. The trip to Ravennaschlucht is possible*. In the mountains of the Black Forest (Schwarzwald), in exotic gorge under the stone viaduct of 36 meters at height the most romantic Christmas market is organized every year. 45 wooden houses welcome to buy local souvenirs, dishes, and handicrafts. (The market is open from Friday till Sunday). Moving to GengenbachHere 24 colorful windows of the guildhall form the big and unique Advents Calendar. Each year the windows are painted by the motifs of various famous books, films, pictures.
Day 5
Trip to France for the whole day, to Alsace*.
Trip to France for the whole day, to Alsace*. Acquaintance with the main towns of the region. The unique, picture-like Strasbourg and Colmar always welcome romantic travelers and enjoy by their timber-+framed houses and various Christmas markets. There are many others interesting and magnificent spots like Obernai and Eguisheim (as an alternative). Return to hotel.
Day 6
Acquaintance with the Black Forest region. 
Acquaintance with the Black Forest region. Visit one of the main towns of the region – Triberg. The trip to the open-air museum of the Black Forest (tickets*). The Vogtsbauernhof in Gutach is the museum of the old peasant households in the Black Forest. The houses almost preserved the interior of the past. The other household premises are open to visit: the old mill, bakery, winery etc. Moving to Titisee in the afternoon. Visit the Christmas market by the banks of the lake (the market is opened on the weekend only. As an alternative Villingen-Schwenningen). Supper in the local restaurant on the lakeside*. Moving to Stuttgart. 
Day 7
Acquaintance with the north of the region, the former kingdom Württemberg.
Moving to Stuttgart
Acquaintance with the north of the region, the former kingdom Württemberg. Moving to Stuttgart. Excursion in the city. Moving to LudwigsburgThe Christmas market is started here on the big Market square with two beautiful churches. It is peculiar by the structure in accordance with symmetrical Baroque Park. Visit the residence is possible*. Return to hotel.
Day 8
Moving to Esslingen-on-Neckar
Moving to Esslingen-on-Neckar. A walk through the town. Additional trip to Tubingen. Town walk. Additional trip to the Hohenzollern castle, the former ancestral castle of the famous dynasty. Return to hotel. 
Day 9
Moving to Frankfurt. The end of the program.
